How about instead of a drop and drag there was a reset button? Push the reset button and we're presented with a list of items to add back to the display (much like the list that is presented now for "extras" to be re-displayed). Everything disappears from the display itself and we can re-add them to the display in the order that we choose so that we can set the groupings the way that we want them? Would that be easier to code? It wouldn't be as easy for the player as a point and click or drag and drop system, but it would still let us expend a little effort to get it looking like we want it -- hopefully without taking too much coding time.
Personally, I'd be willing to settle for that.

I don't see how they could not have realized that people would want to personalize their arrangements while HoM was still in the concept phase. I think they should fix it, even if the code is difficult. It doesn't have to be drag and drop, but how about a text based interface (with buttons and stuff)? Don't worry about graphics, just simple prompts and buttons:
Which title would you like to have placed at the far left?
[title 1 button]
[title 2 button]
[etc.]
[none]
And continue the prompts for every position until you run out of titles or spaces.

Exactly what I've been telling all the time.
Just a collection of long lists, like the hat maker.
Choose [Slot 1]. Then choose statue to put in that slot:
- Statue 1
- Statue 2
- Statue 3
- Statue 4
- Statue 5
Choose [Slot 2]. Then choose statue to put in that slot:
- Statue 1
- Statue 2
- Statue 3
- Statue 4
- Statue 5
If you choose a statue that is already assigned to other slot, then the statue just moves.
And done! No need for new graphics or interfaces! Just variables to store each chosen statue.

If coding a drag and drop system is too hard, why can't they just use a similar function to other areas of Guild Wars?
The following examples are done using selecting systems located in other areas of the game. These have been done to show a few possible alternatives to our current Rearrange Statues button. These are in no way the most efficient method, but are a step to improving.
Please forgive my Photoshop skills...
____________
The current method of organising our Hall of Monuments:
Although it may be simple, the Rearrange Statues system is totally useless. The limitation it sets on the player is astounding, and I cannot comprehend how they could ever think it would be sufficient.
____________
Possible Alternative #1

How this system works
After selecting the Rearrange Statues option, players are taken to the next screen. This screen is based on the Party Search window. The player then can choose which heroes are displayed, similar to how heroes and henchmen are allocated place in a team-by order in which they are chosen.
After choosing a hero to place (in the above example Norgu) click Display or double click the name, the hero's name is then greyed out and the words (Displayed) are place in the same row (similar to the Party Search's function). Should you want to remove a hero, all you need to do is click [i[Remove[/i] or double click. The hero is then available for future listing.
Note: The Fellowship header shouldn't actually be there to maintain coherency with the inital setup...
____________
Possible Alternative #2

How this system works
After selecting the Rearrange Statues option, players are taken to the next screen. This screen is based on the NPC Tolkano [Tournament]'s and [Festival Hat] NPCs' window.
The player then can choose which position he wants to modify. Clicking on an existing slot of an Add Herp slot takes you to another screen in which a list of available heroes are available and a None option. Players choose the hero they want, and there they are.
____________
Whilst you're at it
Please make all the Heroes listed in the Additional companions available for display a list in alphabetical order, not just a random mess of names that defies legibility.

The Hall of Monuments is one of the most disappointing "features" of Eye of the North. The idea that you have to press a "Rearrange" button, which is nothing but a randomizer, to display the statues that you want is totally ridiculous. No finished product should force users to deal with such a crude interface.

It's not a randomizer. No matter hw much times you mash the button, the same order will be always used. You just choose the first statue and the next ones are show with it.

PLEASE, OH PLEASE.
Delete this entire thread, copy this post, sticky it to the top of the forum, and lock it. That post is beautiful and is all we could ever need.
If the OP reads this, could he edit his first post to quote this so everyone could see it?

I fully agree we should be able to rearange our statues as we see fit. I have 20 titles maxed, but no matter how I try, i can not get the 5 I want to show all up at the same time and i hate that. Same with the minis. I want the smaller up front and the larger in the back, but it just wont work that way for me. Now as for armor...the statues there just plain give me the willies every time i go into the HoM. lol
